Artist creates unusual sculpture in homage to wine
A Los Realejos artist is working on a new sculpture which will recognise the role played by the wine industry in the municipality.
Francisco Palmero is producing the unusual tribute in cereamic, wood and metal. It has been commissioned by Los Realejos counci and should be ready in the next few weeks when it will be placed in the heart of San Benito.
The Mayor, Manuel Domínguez and councillor for culture, Adolfo González recently visited the artist’s workshop to see progress on the sculpture.
The design includes two wine barrels, wine racks and a large cluster of 250 grapes.
The site chosen in La Cruz Santa is the inter-section between calle Puldón and calle Real de La Cruz Santa.
The Mayor said this would be an ideal place to pay tribute to the winegrowers of the municipality as families here had been helping to put wine on tables with their closely-guarded secrets for generations.
Other works of Francisco Palmero can be seen around Los Realejos, including the bust of Doctor Antonio González, the distinguished biologist, in Avenida de Canarias.
