Fiesta time in Arona and everyone invited

PAGE 33 FIESTA

If you would like to discover somewhere different but not too far off the beaten track, why not head for Arona town?

Up until October 7th, a fiesta is taking place in honour of Santísimo Cristo de la Salud and Ntra. Señora Virgen del Rosario.

There are a number of events, both for fun and religious, including the election of the Third Age gala queen on Wednesday evening, October 1st with older folk starring in various folk and musical groups in the Plaza del Santísimo Cristo de la Salud from 9.30am.

On Thursday, October 2nd, also from 9.30pm, the same square will host the competition to find the gala queen and there will be a comedian and a singer.

The following evening, October 3rd, it will be the turn of the younger community to try for the title of Reina Infantil. The theme for this is “Frozen” and various dance groups from Arona will take part, together with singer, Najara. Again, this takes place in the plaza at 9.30pm and will be followed at 11pm by a dance with live orchestra.

There will be lots of fun on Saturday, October 4th with bouncy castles and a foam party from 11am to 2pm and a fun soccer match on the municipal football field at 5pm. A “Young Evening” takes place from 4.30pm to 7.30pm with inflatables, soccer, wifi, karaoke, a DJ tent and many more surprises. At 7.30pm, there will be a competition entitled “En Arona Tu Cara me Suena” for children and adults, again in the plaza, and a dance from 11pm.

The fun continues on Sunday, October 5th with a craft festival between 10am and 2.30pm and the “best food and music from our land.” A mass followed by the traditional procession is at 11am and a musical band contest takes place at 7.30pm, followed once again by a dance with live orchestra at 9.30pm.

The fiesta continues on Monday, October 6th with the ringing of bells at 8am, church service at 11am, sports finals at 4pm and another procession and mass at 7.30pm, rounded off by fireworks and open air dance with live music and traditional dancing.

Turn up at 4pm on the final day of October 7th for bouncy castles, a mass at 6pm, children’s festival at 7pm and football tournament at 8pm.
