Two-wheel tourism in Lanzarote

If you like bike riding, Lanzarote is apparently the place to be.

The island has recently been represented at two of Europe’s leading sports fairs in Madrid and Germany to show the public what a great destination it is for cycling, mountain biking and triathlons.

Tourism chiefs say Lanza-rote’s appeal as a biking venue is increasing around the world because of its natural charm, unique scenery, good routes and great weather. Various promotions are being planned for the specialist media this winter.

The island is expecting further dramatic growth in “two wheel tourism” over the next five years and aims to position itself at the forefront of sport attractions.

“Festbike” in Madrid was visited by around 40,000 people whilst a further 25,000 were attracted to “Eurobike Friedrichshafen” in Germany.

Lanzarote’s tourism councillor, Carmen Steinert said it was important for the island to attend such events if it wanted to consolidate its appeal for sports tourism.
