Huge crowd expected for Pinolere craft fair

More than 30,000 visitors are expected to attend the 28th Pinolere Craft Fair in La Orotava from August 30th to September 1st.

The event will feature 200 artisans from all over the Canary Islands who will show and market their creations with a backdrop of activities, music, exhibitions and workshops.

The fair has become one of the biggest and best on the national scene and its fame has spread internationally too. Organised by the Pinolere Cultural Association at their ethnographic park, it has received numerous awards and is so popular that some would-be exhibitors had to be turned away because space was full.

This is a great day out for all the family, regardless of whether you live here or are on holiday and whatever your nationality. It is a true showcase of Canary culture, crafts and history.

First deputy Mayor, Francisco Linares said the fair was unique and stressed its important role in keeping traditions alive. One of the innovations is an area dedicated to the craft of cane and the people of the village of Teror on Gran Canaria.

He praised the efforts of the association and all involved in running this event for 28 years and pledged the continued support of La Orotava council.

Assocation president, Leoncio Luis said the fair was the biggest of its kind in the Canary Islands and was delighted at the record number of people taking part and the huge crowd expected. Visitors are expected from all parts of the archipelago.

To encourage a good turnout, admission to the event is just 2.5 euros. There is also a free bus service to the fair from La Orotava bus station, courtesy of Titsa. Organisers would like to encourage people to share a taxi to the event and gain a discount and arrangements have also been made to have a special road lane dedicated for public transport to save congestion.

The fair opens at 10am on the first day of August 30thwith the official inauguration at noon and closing at 9pm. The opening hours are the same on Saturday and Sunday.
