Progress on new power line
Work is expected to start on a controversial new power line between Candelaria and La Laguna “as soon as possible”.There has been widespread opposition to the prospect of more electricity pylons in Tenerife but it is understood Spain’s Red Eléctrica is currently processing the projects.
The authorities hope the new power line will reduce dependency on the Caletillas station in Candelaria which supplies power to more than half of the island. It would also avoid power cuts and help maintain power during bad weather.
Together with two new sub-stations in the centre of Candelaria and in the neighbouring municipality of El Rosario, the three projects will cost in the region of 48 million euros.
