Perez to follow in Hamilton’s footsteps
Following in the footsteps of Lewis Hamilton won’t be easy but new McLaren driver Sergio Perez is determined to reach the podium.
He has been snapped up by the team after a trio of im-pressive podiums in Malaysia, Canada and Italy for Sauber in 2012.
He has already got down to work for the upcoming season and says his first day was “really special”.
Perez told the Formula One official website: “The most important thing for me is to get into the rhythm of everything – the steering wheel, all the codes, unders-tanding the set-up of the car and to develop good commu-nication with my engineers. It’s very important that I build my relationship with my engineers and the team so that when we go to the first test I am as familiar as possible with the team. Then when we get to Melbourne I will be well prepared, everything will be automatic and I won’t have to think about so many things. The more prepared I can get, the better.”
Of his new team, his new team mate Jenson Button and the prospect of new tyres, he said: “I think the challenge is to win. We are all here to win and that is the challenge we are facing at McLaren.
The new season starts with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 15th to 17th.
