Q. I seem to have a problem with my year 2000 Audi A3 1.9 TDI, once I’ve locked the doors either with just the key or key fob. After about 20 seconds the hazard lights start flashing continuously! Any advice on to how to sort this would be most appreciated.
A. Is the alarm siren actually working? It sounds as if you might have two problems – first, something’s not registering that it’s closed (bonnet switch is a common culprit) so the alarm’s going off, but only the hazards are flashing because the siren doesn’t work. Otherwise, it could be the relay in the alarm unit that’s supposed to flash the hazards once or twice when the alarm’s set, but I’d expect this to happen straight away rather than after 20 seconds. 20 seconds is the usual time for the alarm to set itself, which is why I think it’s trying to go off.
