Finca is Tegueste’s special jewel
One of the most unusual and traditional attractions of north Tenerife, Finca Los Zamorano at Tegueste is to add more strings to its bow.
This lovely finca is already home to a rural farm involving students and hosts many events and courses on its 60,000 square metres site. It is also unique in that it has a 1,500 metre running track which hundreds of people use for running, jogging and walking in order to get fit. Tegueste often refers to the Finca as the “jewel in its crown”.
Now, an agreement has been reached to further develop the agricultural production of the finca and add wine-growing too.
“Boyeros de Tegueste” specialises in developing recovery activities and the preservation and promotion of agriculture and livestock, such as traditional crops, traditional farmwork with cattle, livestock waste composting and threshing demonstrations. The agreement also involves AVITE which promotes wine culture.
Specialising in organic agriculture, Los Zamorano features a wide collection of native plants and Canary trees, as well as floral corridors composed of different herbs and wild Canary flowers beneficial for encouraging insects. Cereals, vegetables and fruit are planted to fit in with the various seasons so there is always plenty to see and the farm also has a number of chestnut trees which are centuries old.
The finca was once a traditional holding but has been converted into a living agricultural venue by Tegueste council. You can find out more and keep up to date with events on www.tegueste.org
