Cut out the naughty treats!
Own up! Over Christmas and the New Year, you almost certainly gave your pet a naughty treat or two.
Research by the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals shows that 12 million pets are being fed too many faulty treats including takeaways, cheese, crisps and cakes, often on a daily basis.
Over half of all dogs are overweight and one in four cats and rabbits have the poorest diet of all.
Around 90% of pet owners admit to giving their pets some of their food.
The PDSA runs a pet slimming club so it might be a good idea to make a New Year resolution for your pet to lose weight. Some of their success stories include a Border Collie who weighed in at 42.4kg and lost 26% of its body weight, a Rottweiler called Molly who ballooned to 65.6kg and lost three fifths of its weight and a giant 2.3kg rabbit which became half its original size!
