A busy New Year’s Eve
New Year’s Eve proved significantly more busy for the 1-1-2 emergency services in the Canary Islands.
Between 9pm on December 31st and 8am on January 1st, 4,145 calls were taken, an increase of 194% over the same period a year before.
Nearly half of the calls (46%) taken by the control rooms in Las Palmas on Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz related to security issues whilst 39.4% concerned health cases and 9.2% were rescue incidents. Accidents accounted for 5.4% of the calls but only two involved incidents of a serious nature. One of them was in Lanzarote when a woman was badly hurt when her car rolled over and the second was in Adeje when two people were injured, one of them very seriously, in a motorbike accident.
